Art

Overview:
Below are just a few reasons why art should be included and the benefits of a well-taught artistic program.

1. Motor Skills: Many of the motions involved in making art, such as holding a paintbrush or scribbling with a crayon, are essential to the growth of fine motor skills in young children .

2. Decision Making: According to a report by Americans for the Arts, art education strengthens problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The experience of making decisions and choices in the course of creating art carries over into other parts of life.

3. Visual Learning: Drawing, sculpting with clay and threading beads on a string all develop visual-spatial skills, which are more important than ever. Even toddlers know how to operate a smart phone or tablet, which means that even before they can read, kids are taking in visual information.

The Art Studio gives our pupils an opportunity to express themselves through the medium of Charcoal, water & oil paints besides a variety of mediums to sketch, draw, paint and do “graphics” in all different forms of mediums. Pupils have the opportunity to showcase their art work at the National Gallery should they achieve the required standard. Our pupils have successfully reached this level, thus reflecting creativity, individuality and the ability to paint and sketch various forms of art work creativity.

Special Achievements

Lusitânia Primary School has participated for the past three years in the Czech International Children’s Exhibition of Fine Arts. There are over 70 countries that enter this exhibition, with over fifteen thousand entries in this category. Lusitânia sent out fifteen pieces of 2-D artwork from different grades to the Czech Republic. This year we are proud of results as always, in particular one of our Grade Six pupils, Star Marasha was awarded an Honorable Mention for her piece, “Uses of Fire.”

Well done Star
