Our Sports Department
Physical activity is vital to the holistic development of children, fostering their physical, social and emotional health. Each child is expected to take part in sporting activities.
Lusitania offers a full and diverse range of sport to suit all abilities and interests.
Our sport is carefully tailored to each age group, focused on enjoyment and integrating activity as part of health and well-being.
Lusitania is known for high levels of sporting achievement, and we do provide an environment for children to excel. Many of our children go on to represent provincial and national teams. However, the foundation of our ethos is to provide every learner with the opportunity to fulfil his or her sporting aspirations at whatever level.
Afternoon activities take place between 2.30pm and 4.30pm from Monday to Thursday.
The sports programme allocates slots for practice for each sport every week.
There are also inter-house competitions during the year.
We have regular fixtures against other schools, and we also participate in tournaments.
The sports department also runs a physical education department. The lessons are time-tabled on the school academic timetable. In grade 1 and 2, students are introduced to the basics of physical education, as well as the basic skills and techniques of the compulsory sports. Physical Education is offered as one of the practical Zimsec subject’s that the students sit for in grade 7.
